Protests In Bangladesh Turn Violent As Filthy Muslims Clash With Police – Cabinet Minister Offers $100,000 Reward, Which He Said He’ll Pay Himself, For Killing US Filmmaker Over Video About Pedophile Islamic Prophet Muhammad – Urges Taliban And Al-Qaida To Preform The “Sacred Duty” Of Locating And Killing Filmmaker

September 22, 2012

DHAKA, BANGLADESH — Scores of people were injured Saturday in a clash in Bangladesh’s capital between police and hundreds of demonstrators, as protests continued in the Muslim world against a film produced in the United States that denigrates Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.

In Pakistan, where more than 20 people died Friday in clashes with police in cities throughout the country, a Cabinet minister offered a $100,000 reward for the death of the filmmaker.

Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmad Balor told The Associated Press that he would pay the reward out of his own pocket. He urged the Taliban and al-Qaida to perform the “sacred duty” of helping locate and kill the filmmaker.

The film has sparked violent protests throughout the Muslim world that resulted in the deaths of dozens, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

In Bangladesh, police fired tear gas and used batons on Saturday to disperse the stone-throwing protesters, who were from about a dozen Islamic groups.

The protesters burned several vehicles, including a police van, witnesses said.

Dozens of protesters were arrested at the demonstration and inside the nearby National Press Club, where participants took refuge, a Dhaka Metropolitan Police official said on condition of anonymity in line with police policy. Police and witnesses said scores of people were injured.

The clash erupted when authorities attempted to halt the demonstration, police said. Authorities have banned all protests near the city’s main Baitul Mokarram mosque since Friday, when more than 2,000 people marched and burned an effigy of President Barack Obama.

The protesters announced a nationwide general strike on Sunday to protest the police action.

In Pakistan, protests continued Saturday, with more than 1,500 people, including women and children, rallying in Pakistan’s capital. The crowd was peaceful but angry over the release of the video called “Innocence of Muslims,” which portrays Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, a womanizer and a child molester.

The protesters — from the Minhaj-ul-Quran religious group — marched through Islamabad’s streets and then gathered near Parliament, chanting slogans against the filmmaker and demanding stern punishment for him.

Thousands of people also protested Saturday in Nigeria’s largest city, Kano. The crowd marched from a mosque to the palace of the Emir of Kano, the region’s top spiritual leader for Muslims.

About 200 students in Srinagar, the main city in Indian-controlled Kashmir, chanted “Down with America” and “Long live Islam” in a peaceful protest. Some carried a placard that read, “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger.”

Jury Finds California Hero NOT GUILTY After Attacking Elderly Pedophile Priest In Retirement Home – He And His Brother Had Been Raped By His “Victim” 40+ Years Ago

July 7, 2012

LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA – William Lynch never disputed that he had punched a retired Catholic priest in an old folks home in Los Gatos. He said the cleric raped him nearly four decades ago, that he had simply snapped when he demanded an admission of guilt. He didn’t expect a jury to overlook the letter of the law and let him go.

But Thursday, in a verdict that drew gasps of astonishment in a San Jose courtroom, the jury said the 44-year-old Lynch was not guilty of felony assault and elder abuse in the 2010 attack on Jerold Lindner, 67.

The panel considered a lesser count of misdemeanor assault – one of the jurors said afterward that several felt compelled to find Lynch guilty of something – but even on that charge, it deadlocked 8-4 for conviction.

As the verdicts were read in Santa Clara County Superior Court, Lynch’s mother, Peggy Lynch, broke into tears. Her son stared straight ahead, a small grin crossing his face. When the jury’s last finding was read, defense attorneys Pat Harris and Paul Mones hugged him and he grinned broadly.

Asked outside court if he had expected to be acquitted of the most serious charges against him, Lynch said, “Honestly, no. I was surprised pleasantly.”

He added, “I feel I can probably have some peace now and move forward.”

‘This is amazing’

His sister, Amanda Lynch, was one of 50 or so supporters who gathered outside the courthouse. She collapsed in tears as she heard of the verdicts.

“This is amazing,” she said. “I never thought it could come out this good.”

One juror said the description in court of the rape that Lynch said the priest committed had “tremendous play” in the panel’s decision.

“We all agreed that it was a heinous act,” said the juror, who asked to not be named. “It was a tough thing to disregard.”

He said he had been among the eight voting for conviction on the misdemeanor assault count, but only because he felt he had to follow legal limitations, “and the defendant admitted hitting the victim.”

Another juror said, “Nobody wanted to convict, but we had to consider what the law says.”
1975 camping trip

Lynch, who lives in San Francisco, testified that the molestation happened on a religious camping trip in 1975, when he was 7 years old. Lindner violently sodomized him and made him and his 4-year-old brother orally copulate each other, he said.

“He told me that if I told on him, he’d kill my parents, kill my brother, kill my sister,” Lynch said.

The nationally watched trial threw a spotlight on the issue of sexual abuse by Catholic priests. Mones, a national advocate for clergy abuse victims, said he hoped the case would give new momentum to the issue.

“It’s individuals like Will coming forward who will change the church,” the defense attorney said.

Prosecutors said that even if Lindner molested Lynch, it was not grounds for Lynch to administer his own form of justice.
Retrial decision

District Attorney Jeff Rosen said he had sympathy for Lynch, but that the law demanded he prosecute. He said he would decide over the next week whether to retry Lynch on the misdemeanor assault count.

“We do not condone what he did,” Rosen said. However, he added, “this case is also about Mr. Lindner and those who have escaped justice for the awful crimes they have done against children.”

Lindner was not in court for the verdicts.

Throngs of Lynch’s supporters massed outside the courthouse entrance every day of the two-week trial, waving signs with such sentiments as, “Catholic Church: Stop harboring pedophiles,” and hurling insults at Lindner and his lawyers whenever they showed up.
‘I hated myself’

Lynch argued that his attack was justified considering the trauma he has endured since Lindner allegedly molested him and his brother on the camping trip to the Santa Cruz Mountains. As he grew, he said, “I hated myself. There was a lot of fear and shame and guilt.”

Pedophile Veteran Miramar Florida Police Officer Capt. Del Los Rios Arrested, Suspended, And Charged After Preforming “Sex Check” Exam On 15 Year Old Girl In The Backseat Of His Patrol Car

July 2, 2012

MIRAMAR, FLORIDA – A Florida Police captain was arrested Friday on charges he made a 15-year-old girl strip naked in the back seat of a car for a “sex check” to prove she wasn’t having sex, reports said.

Capt. Juan De los Rios was charged with two felony counts of lewd and lascivious conduct involving a child for making the girl strip naked, show her private parts and allow him to inspect her body for bruising after finding her talking with a 19-year-old boy in the backseat of a car on Jan. 18, according to a Broward State Attorney’s Office report obtained by the Sun-Sentinel.

De los Rios, 46, faces up to 15 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine, authorities said.

The girl and her friend were in the back of a car parked in the back of an industrial park after school when De los Rios approached them, looking through the window, according to an affidavit obtained by the Miami Herald.

“Were you having sex? What were you doing here?” The girl told police De los Rios said to her after making the two roll their window down, the affidavit said.

“No, no, no, officer no,” the affidavit said the girl told De los Rios.

De los Rios, an 18-year police veteran, then allegedly told the girl he needed to check. When asked for clarification, the officer told her he needed to “see inside” and forced her to strip naked so he could perform the exam. The girl complied out of fear, the affidavit said.

A veteran Miramar Police captain was arrested Friday after he made a teen get naked to prove that she was not having sex in the back seat of a parked car, authorities said.

Finished with his “exam,” De los Rios told the teens to go home, reports WTVJ.

The girl was initially afraid to report what happened until convinced to by her older sister, the station reported. Her parents immediately told authorities.

“She was probably so intimidated by this police officer to even think that she had to do that,” outraged Miramar resident Josie Huff WTVJ. “It’s disgusting. It’s just unbelievable.”

De los Rios turned himself in at the Broward County Main Jail after a warrant was issued for his arrest yesterday and is being held on $30,000 bail, the Miami Herald reported.

A veteran Miramar Police captain was arrested Friday after he made a teen get naked to prove that she was not having sex in the back seat of a parked car, authorities said.

Investigators told the paper they have obtained a video tape, the paper reports that its quality isn’t enough to identify those involved, but body language is consistent with the allegations.

The teens have not been identified and a department spokesperson told the paper that De los Rios has been suspended without pay “pending the outcome of the investigation.”

Veteran San Francisco California Gay Rights Adcocate Larry Brinkin Arrested For Child Pornography

June 26, 2012

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – San Francisco police have arrested veteran gay rights advocate Larry Brinkin in connection with felony possession of child pornography.

Brinkin, 66, who worked for the San Francisco Human Rights Commission before his retirement in 2010, was taken into custody Friday night. He spent the night in jail before he was released on bail, according to a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department.

The district attorney’s office will decide Tuesday whether to file charges. “We’re still reviewing the case,” district attorney’s spokeswoman Stephanie Ong Stillman said Monday.

Police say that Brinkin had pornographic images, some that appear to show children as young as 1 and 2 or 3 years old being sodomized and performing oral sex on adult men, in e-mail attachments linked to his account, according to a search warrant served by San Francisco police.

Representatives of America Online contacted authorities after coming across e-mail attachments from one of its subscriber’s accounts containing what they believed to be child pornography.

The Los Angeles Police Department, which was assigned to the case, traced the IP address associated with the account,, to Brinkin, a San Francisco resident, according to court records. Los Angeles police forwarded the case to San Francisco police.

San Francisco investigators say the account was registered to Brinkin, and that he paid for the e-mail service with his credit card.

Police provided two examples of e-mail messages from last year in which Zack3737 provides disturbing descriptions of the exploitive sexual acts.

The e-mail account also is linked to Yahoo discussion groups on sexual exploitation of young boys and girls, according to the search warrant.

Executing a search warrant Friday, police seized two laptops, a desk top computer, videos, a floppy disk and thumb drives from Brinkin’s Waller Street home.

During his 22-year tenure at the Human Rights Commission, Brinkin was best known for championing equal rights for gays and lesbians. He helped craft San Francisco’s groundbreaking Equal Benefits Ordinance, which became a national model for workplace equality.

Upon Brinkin’s retirement, the Board of Supervisors approved a resolution declaring the week of Feb. 1, 2010, “Larry Brinkin Week” in San Francisco, saying his “dedication to advance the civil rights of all people has never stopped.”

Former Supervisor Bevan Dufty who authored the board resolution, said Monday that he was shocked to learn of Brinkin’s arrest. “I have admired and respected his work for the LGBT community,” Dufty said. “I respect and am confident that there will be due process.”

Brinkin did not respond to requests for comment Monday.

Justice: Town Supports Shiner Texas Hero Who Beat Man To Death After He Caught Him Sexually Assaulting His 5 Year Old Daughter – Sheriff: “You Have A Right To Defend Your Daughter.”

June 14, 2012

SHINER, TEXAS – Shiner is a place you can raise your cattle and chickens under the hot Texas sun, cool off with a bottle from the Lone Star State’s oldest independent brewery, then go to bed knowing all your neighbors and believing that you’ll be safe.

But a few days ago, one of its trademark ranches turned into a crime scene. That’s when a father reportedly spotted a man sexually assaulting his 5-year-old daughter, then beat the alleged abuser to death.

In a community that prides itself as being peaceful, a place where things like this just don’t happen, there is a sweeping consensus that justice was served.

“Any father would have done that,” Michael James Veit, whose son graduated with the father from Shiner High School in 2007 and who now lives across the road from the ranch where the killing took place, said Thursday. “Everybody is saying the father is justified.”

According to the Lavaca County Sheriff’s office, the 23-year-old father and his family were enjoying a barbecue last Saturday at their ranch on Shiner’s outskirts where they keep horses and chickens.

His young daughter had gone off toward the barn, to feed the chickens, the child’s grandfather — who isn’t being named, to protect the identity of his granddaughter — told CNN affiliates KSAT and KPRC.

Then her father heard screaming and ran. He found a 47-year-old man in the act of sexually abusing his daughter, according to Sheriff Mica Harmon.

The father stopped the alleged abuser, then pounded him repeatedly in the head.

“I jumped the fence and saw the man on the ground,” the grandfather said of what he first saw. “At that point, I didn’t know if he was dead or not.”

Authorities did, in fact, pronounce the alleged abuser dead. Lavaca County Precinct Judge Alene Lyons said Monday that a preliminary autopsy report show he “died from blunt-force head and neck injuries,” adding toxicology report results should be back in six weeks.

Sheriff Harmon described the victim as an acquaintance of the family, known for his horse-grooming abilities. He has not yet been publicly identified by authorities.

The father himself called 911, telling them that his daughter’s alleged abuser was lying, beaten, on the ground. Afterward, the sheriff said that the admitted killer appeared “very remorseful” and didn’t know the other man would die at the scene.

Asked whether authorities would press charges against the father, the sheriff responded, “You have a right to defend your daughter. He acted in defense of his third person. Once the investigation is completed we will submit it to the district attorney, who then submits it to the grand jury, who will decide if they will indict him.”

Neighbors portrayed the father as hard-working, friendly and polite, the type of guy who reliably addresses others as “Sir.”

“He’s not a violent guy, he’s never been in any trouble in his life,” said Veit of a man he described as a single father who worked nobly to make ends meet. “He’s a good, honest, hard-working kid.”

Most any violence is unexpected in Shiner, a community between Houston and San Antonio that has about 2,000 people within its city limits and another 1,500 or so on its outskirts, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Billing itself as the “Cleanest Little City in Texas,” Shiner is known for the Spoetzl Brewery, a wire and plastics company, not to mention its acres upon acres of plains and farms. Veit calls it “a small-town community,” filled with folks who may not be wealthy but who work hard and look out for one another.

“Nothing ever happens, there’s never any murders here,” Veit said. “Everybody knows everybody, and gets along with everybody. (This killing) is a real big shock.”

Pedophile Former Charlotte County Florida Deputy Sheriff Ken Barton Charged With Child Pornography – Previously Investigated After Affairs With Children

June 6, 2012

CHARLOTTE COUNTY FLORIDA – The Charlotte County Sheriff is giving us more in sight into the arrest of a former deputy who is now behind bars. Charged with possessing child porn, Ken Barton was accused of sexual misconduct while he was on the job. Allegations came to light in 2007 when a girl came forward calling barton “Uncle Ken” and claimed that in the early 1980’s when she was 6 to 10 years old, Barton had sexually assaulted her. The investigation into that accusation subsequently led to another accusation that Barton had carried on an affair in the early ’80s with a young lady in the Explorer program in Englewood which Barton was running.

An internal affairs investigation in 2007 of then deputy Ken Barton sustained the allegations of the affair with the teen, but back then the affair was not considered a crime.

“We did not have a crime so we were actually investigating policy violations,” said Sheriff Bill Cameron.

On the original allegation, The sheriff says the department found enough evidence to file a warrant request with the State Attorney’s office, but the State Attorney’s Office says there was not enough evidence to build a case a quarter of a centery after the alleged crime. They also pointed out that the memory of the victim left quite a few gaps in her story.

As for this latest case, Sheriff Cameron was quick to point out that his agency participated with the F.B.I. in Barton’s arrest yesterday.

“The innocent images task force that is doing these investigations- i have a detective assigned to that task force,” said Cameron.

He was also quick to distance his agency from Barton pointing out that the crimes that Barton have been accused of happened five years after Barton left the agency.

Pennsylvania Judge John Cleland Won’t Protect Identities Of Child Rape Victims During Pedophile Jerry Sandusky’s Trial

June 4, 2012

PENNSYLVANIA – Jury selection in the trial of Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach charged with child rape, is scheduled to start Tuesday in Pennsylvania.

A judge last week denied his attorneys’ latest bid for a delay, allowing the case to move forward.

Sandusky, 68, has been under house arrest since being charged with sexually abusing 10 boys over 14 years. Prosecutors allege he met some of his accusers through Second Mile, a charity he created for underprivileged children.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. According to a source close to the Sandusky family, he is expected to attend court Tuesday.

The allegations against Sandusky led to the firing of iconic Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno only months before he died of complications from lung cancer.

Several of the people whom prosecutors accuse Sandusky of abusing asked a judge to protect their identities at trial.

However, Judge John Cleland on Monday ruled the alleged victims’ identities may not be concealed during the trial, although they will be protected through the jury selection process.

“Courts are not customarily in the business of withholding information,” Cleland’s ruling said. “Secrecy is thought to be inconsistent with the openness required to assure the public that the law is being administered fairly and applied faithfully.”

Prosecutors in Sandusky case present new, graphic details

But, the judge noted, “It is also to be hoped that various news organizations that will report on the trial will use what has become their professional custom to protect the privacy of alleged victims.”

CNN generally does not identify alleged victims of sexual assault.

Those asking for their identities to be concealed included one man known simply as Victim 4. His attorney, Ben Andreozzi, said he believes his client, now 28, is the strongest witness for the prosecution and will be called to testify first.

“In society, sometimes we question why rape victims are reluctant to come forward,” Andreozzi said Monday after the ruling. “So now we have our answer. … We are disappointed.”

“We are not asking to close the courtroom, only to use a pseudonym,” he said.

His client will still testify, he said, “but at what expense to his emotional well-being?”

He said he expects the defense to attack his client on the basis of a meeting he had with Sandusky in the years after the alleged abuse.

“My client couldn’t break free,” said the attorney, describing the relationship between Victim 4 and Sandusky as “complex.”

Mike McQueary, a former graduate student considered to be another key witness in the Sandusky case, has testified that he alerted Paterno in 2002 that he’d seen what appeared to be Sandusky sexually assaulting a boy, an allegation authorities didn’t learn of until years later.

Psychologist flagged Sandusky as ‘likely pedophile’ in 1998 report

But prosecutors said later that the incident took place about a year earlier than what was originally alleged, causing defense attorneys for two former Penn State officials to argue that one of the charges should now be dropped.

Tim Curley, Penn State’s former athletic director, and Gary Schultz, a former university vice president who oversaw campus police, have been charged with perjury and failing to report the alleged sexual assault of a child. Both of them have pleaded not guilty, and their attorneys have said that prosecutors “charged this case before (they) knew the facts.”

After news of the scandal broke last year, The New York Times published an extensive interview in which Sandusky attempted to clarify his relationships with young people.

“If I say, ‘No, I’m not attracted to young boys,’ that’s not the truth,” he said, according to the story. “Because I’m attracted to young people — boys, girls — I …”

His lawyer, who was present at the interview, spoke up at that point to note that Sandusky is “not sexually” attracted to them.

“Right. I enjoy — that’s what I was trying to say — I enjoy spending time with young people. I enjoy spending time with people,” Sandusky continued. “I mean, my two favorite groups are the elderly and the young.”

June 3, 2012

TROY, NEW YORK – A Troy police sergeant has found himself on the other side of the law. Patrick Rosney was arrested by New York City Police. They say he entered a chat room this week and believed he was talking with a 14-year-old girl who was actually an undercover police officer.

Pedophile Butte County California Deputy Sheriff Earl Klapperich Arrested, Suspended, And Charged After Seeking Sex With A Child

May 30, 2012

BUTTE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA – A Butte County deputy has been arrested on suspicion of agreeing to meet a minor for sex after a sting conducted by the district attorney’s office.

Deputy Earl Klapperich, 27, was arrested Friday by investigators from the Butte County District attorney’s office. His arrest came after a complaint filed April 14 over the way Klapperich handled a call involving two reported runaway teens.

The complaint alleged inappropriate conduct on the part of the deputy toward the girls, one 16 years old, the other 14 years old.

The sheriff’s department brought in the district attorney’s office and an undercover operation began. The sting involved investigators posing as a 14-year-old girl.

The investigators initiated a text message conversation with Klapperich in which the deputy is alleged to have asked that the “girl” send him a nude picture of herself. Eventually, a meeting was arranged in Chico where Klapperich was taken into custody by district attorney investigators, according to a press release from the district attorney’s office.

Klapperich said he agreed to the meeting in order to counsel the girl in the text messages, according to the press release. He faces potential charges of arranging a meeting with a minor for the purpose of engaging in lewd or lascivious behavior.

The deputy has been removed from duty. An internal affairs investigation is underway.

Pedophile Retired San Diego County Deputy Sheriff Sgt. John Frederick Garner Arrested, Charged After Hundreds Of Child Pornography Images Are Found On His Computer And More In His eMail Account – Images Included Infant And Children 5 Through 10 Years Old

May 27, 2012

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – A Spring Valley man and former sergeant with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department was arrested Friday for possessing and distributing pornographic images of children as young as 5-years-old.

John Frederick Garner had hundreds of images of prepubescent children posing nude or performing sexual acts, according to a federal complaint.

Garner worked at the Sheriff’s Department from 1994 through 2010. His last position was in the George F. Bailey Detention Facility in Otay Mesa, which he retired from in 2010, according to department spokeswoman Jan Caldwell.

A Chula Vista police officer working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from Microsoft Corporation that one of their users had uploaded the disturbing images.

The officer served a warrant and seized Garner’s computer from his home on Berkwood Drive, which confirmed that the images were downloaded February 16 through 19 of last year.

Court documents show the officer discovered the images were not only uploaded but also distributed to other users. The complaint described the images of boys and girls most of them ages five through 10. One image depicts an infant, the complaint read.

A statement from Garner’s attorney said the charges are “extremely difficult for him and his family.”

“[Garner] admirably served in the military for 28 years and also served the local law-enforcement community for several years as a deputy sheriff,” said his attorney Kerry Armstrong.

In an interview during the raid, Garner confirmed that he received and distributed child pornography on the computer he shared with his wife, prosecutors alleged.

He also allegedly admitted that he participated in sexual online chats about children.

A seperate investigator in Los Angeles was also looking into an email account that belonged to Garner. The account was identified on the computer the officer seized from Garner’s home. The account contained 50 child pornography images and 12 child pornography videos, as well as several in the “sent” folder,” all distributed between February and June 15 2011, the complaint alleges.

Neighbors were surprised to learn that a federal raid served 6 months ago resulted in Garner’s charges.

Garder is currently in federal custody, and will appear for a bond hearing Friday at 2:30 p.m., Armstrong said.

“I hope to get him released on bond tomorrow so that we can more effectively fight his charges,” Armstrong added.

Pedophile Loveland Colorado Police Officer Rod Bretches Arrested For Child Pornography And Secret Video Of Woman At His Home That He Shared Online

May 26, 2012

LOVELAND, COLORADO — Loveland police filed charges Friday against a member of the Police Department on allegations he possessed child pornography.

Rod Bretches, 48, faces a felony charge of sexual exploitation of a child and two misdemeanor charges of peeping after his co-workers served a search warrant on his home Tuesday. The felony charge accuses him of having more than 20 pornographic videos and photographs, and the misdemeanors allege he, twice, viewed or recorded a woman in the shower without her knowledge.

Bretches turned himself in and was booked, then released on $10,000 bond — an amount set by 8th Judicial District Court Judge Greg Lammons.

Bretches began his career with the Loveland Police Department as a reserve officer in 1985, then was hired as a police officer in Craig from 1988 to 1993 before returning to serve with the Loveland Police Department for 19 years.

He became one of the department’s first police-dog handlers and has given K9 presentations throughout the community at public safety day, for Scout groups, before community groups and at schools.

There is no indication that any crime occurred while he was on duty or in any police capacity, said Chief Luke Hecker.

Earlier this week, a woman learned a video of her in the shower had been secretly taken at Bretches’ home and shared online, according to family and friends. She reported the alleged violation to Loveland police, and detectives quickly launched an investigation.

Officers served a warrant at Bretches’ home Tuesday and reportedly found child pornography on his personal computer.

Police took his badge and service weapon immediately, then continued to investigate, filing charges Friday with the 8th Judicial District Attorney.

“We treated this like any other case, like any other suspect,” Hecker said.

His officers are reeling with the arrest of one of their own, but are committed to continuing to protect and serve the community with integrity, Hecker said. Counseling and peer support are available to all staff.

“This has been a very difficult investigation for Loveland police, but they have stepped up, heroically and with integrity, and investigated thouroughly and very rapidly,” Hecker said.

“The speed with which the charges were filed and the due diligence our staff put into this and investigating this with integrity is a reflection of the trust people can have in this department.”

During his career, Bretches was involved in many arrests, chases and notable captures and was a visible face of the Loveland Police Department.

He is on paid administrative leave, facing prison time if convicted.

The felony carries a sentence of two to six years in prison, which spikes to 12 years if there are aggravated circumstances, and each misdemeanor could bring up to 24 months in jail.

Bretches, like anyone accused of a crime, is considered innocent until proven guilty, so department policy dictates paid leave until the allegations have played out in court.

The police officer is due to make his first appearance Friday. He is free on bond and has been ordered not to possess any weapons.

Pedophile Gwinnett County Georiga Police Officer David D. Lowe Arrested, Quits, Charged After Targeting Children By Posting Pornography – Moron Had Just Graduated Police Academy

May 26, 2012

LAWRENCEVILLE, GEORGIA – Gwinnett County Police arrested one of their own Friday.

In a release, GCPD announced the arrest of David D. Lowe. The 26-year-old Lowe graduated from the police academy earlier this month.

Lowe is charged with electronically furnishing obscene material to minors. Investigators are looking into additional charges.

GCPD’s Special Victims Unit received a tip from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations about explicit video on the website, a site designed for use by minors. The site allows users to create a profile and only interact with people in their age range.

For example, if a 14-year-old creates a profile, they will only be able to interact with users between the age of 13 and 16.

The tip from GBI showed that an unknown person had created an account on the website and was sharing adult videos with minors.

GCPD’s SVU was lead to Lowe’s home based on this information. Police obtained a search warrant for their fellow officer and conducted a search on his home and computers Friday.

Lowe was arrested and will be taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

After his arrest, GCPD says Lowe was presented with a “notification of intent to terminate.” Lowe opted to resign instead.

Pedophile Birmingham Alabama Police Officer And Task Force Member Sgt. Patrick Cavan LeBlanc Arrested On Child Pornography Charges – Victim Was Child Family Member

May 26, 2012

HOOVER, ALABAMA – A Birmingham police officer has been arrested on charges of possessing and attempting to produce child pornography.

Patrick Cavan LeBlanc, 44, faces a charge of possession of obscene matter containing visual depiction of person and a second charge of attempted production of obscene matter containing visual depiction.

Hoover Police say the victim in this case was a family member under the age of 17.

LeBlanc was hired by the Birmingham Police Department Aug. 9, 1990. He was assigned to a city-wide task force and held the rank of sergeant, according to Birmingham Police Sergeant Johnny Williams.

Williams says LeBlanc was placed on administrative leave once the Birmingham Police Department learned of the Hoover Police Department’s investigation of LeBlanc. Hoover police began their investigation a week ago after receiving information about a possible suspect in a child pornography case.

“We were notified at the onset of their investigation and we fully support their efforts in conducting their investigation,” Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper said.

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting an internal investigation in addition to the Hoover Police investigation.

LeBlanc turned himself in to the Hoover Police Department Friday, May 25. He was booked into the Hoover City Jail and then taken to the Jefferson County Jail. Police say his bond on both charges is $45,000.

LeBlanc’s arrest occurred on the same day that another Birmingham police officer, Curtis Thornton, was charged in an arson investigation in Warrior.

Pedophile Catholic Priest Thomas Harkins, Removed From Ministry Over Sex Abuse Allegations, Working For TSA In Sensitive Security Post At Philadelphia Pennsylvania Airport

May 25, 2012

PHILADELPHIA,PENNSYLVANIA – The CBS 3 I-Team has learned that a Catholic priest who was removed from the ministry over sex abuse allegations now holds a sensitive security post at Philadelphia International Airport.

The security checkpoint between Terminals D and E is a busy place where thousands of people – including lots of kids – pass through every day. But you might not believe who the I-Team observed working as a TSA supervisor at that checkpoint this week: Thomas Harkins.

Until 2002, Harkins was a Catholic priest working at churches across South Jersey. But the Diocese of Camden removed him from ministry because it found he sexually abused two young girls. Now, in a new lawsuit, a third woman is claiming she also is one of Harkins’ victims.

The I-Team asked Harkins about the suit as he was leaving his shift at the airport.

“I have nothing to say,” was Harkins’ reply.

The new lawsuit, filed in federal court against the Camden Diocese says quite a bit. It accuses Harkins of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl 10 to 15 times in 1980 and 1981. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the alleged victim, claims the abuse occurred while Harkins was a priest at Saint Anthony of Padua parish in Hammonton, NJ, with one assault even occurring in Harkins’ bedroom at the rectory.

The I-Team asked Harkins if the traveling public should be worried.

“No, they shouldn’t be,” he said.

“The public should not be worried with you in a position like this despite your past?” reporter Ben Simmoneau asked.

“I have nothing to say,” Harkins repeated.

He then used his TSA badge to walk into a restricted area where our cameras could not follow.

“They should know who they’re hiring,” said Karen Polesir, a Philadelphia spokeswoman with the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP). She believes Harkins’ TSA job is inappropriate.

“As the public, we are screened to our underwear getting on a plane, and yet they hire a man like that.”

A TSA official tells the I-Team Harkins’ title is “Transportation Security Manager, Baggage,” meaning he deals mostly with luggage, not passengers.

“Sure, that’s his title,” Polesir said. “That doesn’t mean that’s where he stays, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t fill other roles when necessary.”

The TSA says all its employees go through a criminal background check before they’re hired, but because these cases are so old, criminal charges were not filed. A spokesman says the Camden Diocese settled the first two lawsuits with Harkins’ accusers–it has not seen this suit just yet.

Pedophile Butte County California Deputy Sheriff Earl Klapperich Arrested, Suspended, Charged After Seeking Sex With 14 Year Old Girl

May 16, 2012

CHICO, CALIFORNIA – Neighbors say they always felt safe knowing there is a deputy living just a few doors down, but they were shocked to hear of the allegations against Butte County Sheriff’s Deputy Earl Klapperich.

“My kids play outside. They play in the yard with all of the other neighborhood kids. I don’t know if he has ever walked by and thought something,” Carrie Ramirez said.

The 27-year-old was arrested late Friday when he showed up at a Chico restaurant, where prosecutors say he arranged to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl he had been sending sexual text messages to.
Investigators set up the sting after receiving a complaint about Klapperich in April, alleging inappropriate conduct with two teenage runaways in the Berry Creek area.

“A plan was formulated that the deputy would be on duty and in an area to be observed to see if he was texting back, the investigator that was pretending to be the 14-year-old began texting Friday morning,” District Attorney Mike Ramsey said.

One of the deputy’s family members told us that he believed the text messages were from a friend playing a prank as part of his bachelor party, and that he was just playing along with the joke.

“That was discussed with the deputy, and basically discounted,” Ramsey said.

Klapperich is used to being on the other side sting operations.

The deputy posed as a high school student in a major drug sting operation in Siskiyou County in 2009 that resulted in the arrest of more than 30 suspects, including a Mount Shasta city councilwoman.

His neighbors now say they will be cautious as Klapperich is now out on bail awaiting trial.

“We have three young boys too, and when you hear something that involves kids, your instant reaction is too be nervous,” Rebecca Boyer said.

Klapperich has been suspended from his duties with the sheriff’s department pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

He is set to appear in court on the criminal charges on June first.

Pedophile Former “Top” FBI Agent Donald Sachtleben Arrested, Charged With Child Pornography – Currently Visiting Professor At Oklahoma State University, But All References To Him Suddenly Disappeared From Their Web Site

May 15, 2012

CARMEL, INDIANA – A former supervisory FBI agent has been arrested and jailed on child pornography charges.

Donald Sachtleben was taken into custody and charged Monday after a nationwide undercover investigation of illegal child porn images traded over the Internet.

The 54-year-old resident of Carmel, Indiana, has pleaded not guilty and has a detention hearing in federal court Wednesday.

A federal complaint alleges 30 graphic images and video were found on Sachtleben’s laptop computer late last week when FBI agents searched his home, about 23 miles north of Indianapolis.

The arrest was a result a months-long probe, said the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, Joseph Hogsett.

“The mission of our Project Safe Childhood initiative is to investigate and prosecute anyone found to (be) engaged in the sexual exploitation of children,” Hogsett said in a news release. “No matter who you are, you will be brought to justice if you are found guilty of such criminal behavior.”

Sachtleben is currently an Oklahoma State University visiting professor, according to his online resume. He is director of training at the school’s Center for Improvised Explosives, but all references to his work have now been removed from the university’s website. There was no indication from the school as to whether it had suspended him. Calls to the university and his Indianapolis attorneys were not immediately returned.

He had been an FBI special agent from 1983 to 2008, serving as a bomb technician. He worked on the Oklahoma City bombing and Unabomber investigations, according to his university biography.

A separate LinkedIn profile filled out by Sachtleben says he is an “accomplished investigator with more than 25 years of experience in FBI major case management, counter terrorism investigations, bombing prevention, post blast investigations and public speaking.”

According to the criminal complaint, a federal-state joint task force had been investigating an Illinois man allegedly trading child porn images as far back as September 2010. That suspect was arrested in January, and a search of his computer reportedly led to Sachtleben, who was using the e-mail name pedodave69.

According to the affidavit, an e-mail from that account was sent to the Illinois suspect last fall, along with nine images of child porn. “Saw your profile on (a file sharing network). Hope you like these and can send me some of ours (sic). I have even better ones if you like.” Prosecutors say Sachtleben sent that e-mail.

Sachtleben’s wife was interviewed by agents during the execution of the search warrant and denied any involvement with child porn. She was not taken into custody.

FBI officials in Washington had no comment on the arrest.

If convicted, Sachtleben would face up to 20 years in prison on the charge of distribution of child porn, and an additional 10 years for possession.

The Justice Department’s Project Safe Childhood initiative was launched in 2006, leading to what federal officials call a more than 40% increase in the number of cases investigated. The project’s website says 2,700 indictments were filed last year alone.

Highest Court In New York State Legalizes Viewing Of Child Pornography – Pedophiles Can Still Be Prosecuted At Federal Level Until State’s Defective Laws Are Fixed

May 15, 2012

NEW YORK – In the wake of a New York court ruling that says it’s not illegal to “merely” view online child pornography, child advocates are urging Internet-savvy federal prosecutors to take over these kinds of cases as two state lawmakers rush to fix the law.

It is “a singular outrage that the highest court in New York has decriminalized the act of viewing child pornography by computer,” Patrick Trueman, president and chief executive of Morality in Media, said after the May 8 ruling by the New York Court of Appeals.

The high court unanimously agreed to reverse two of the dozens of child-pornography counts against a former college professor, saying there was no evidence the professor did more than look at some images on his computer.

The ruling resulted in a spate of head-spinning headlines like’s “Viewing Child Porn Online Officially A-OK in New York State” and “Looking at Child Porn Is Totally Legal in New York State” by the Atlantic Wire.

Mr. Trueman, a former federal prosecutor, said that until the law is fixed, all child-pornography cases in New York “that cannot now be prosecuted in New York state courts as a result of the court’s decision” should be handled in federal court by U.S. attorneys and prosecutors with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

“This will mean that there will be a lot more child porn cases in the federal system, but it is a much better situation than letting these child pornographers go,” Mr. Trueman said.

Two New York lawmakers have already jumped into action.

In a press release headlined “New York must close loophole that protects perverts,” New York state Sen. Martin J. Golden said he had introduced a bill saying that a person who “knowingly accesses [child pornography] with intent to view” has committed a felony crime.

“Child pornography is highly offensive” and it “should not matter if you view it, read it or download it. Simply the fact that you are viewing it is a crime, and New York should treat it as such,” said Mr. Golden.

New York state Assemblyman Joseph Lentol sponsored a similar bill in his chamber.

The high court ruling stemmed from an appeal by James D. Kent, 65, a former Marist College professor of public administration who was convicted on 136 counts of procuring and possessing child pornography in 2009.

He is currently serving a prison sentence of one to three years.

Following a routine computer upgrade in 2007, Kent’s work computer was found to contain deleted evidence of more than 30,000 images of young girls, including ones depicting children “engaged in sexual intercourse with adults,” “engaged in oral sex and sexual intercourse with dogs, adults and other children,” and “lewd exhibition of the exposed genitals of female children,” the high court wrote.

The photos and videos were downloaded and saved onto Kent’s computer between 2005 and 2007, and sorted into files and documents with names like “Arina,” “Jim” and JK,” the ruling said.

Kent initially “denied any knowledge” of the images, but later said he had been working on “a potential research project on the regulation of child pornography.”

In Kent’s appeal, lawyer Nathan Z. Dershowitz argued that just “accessing and displaying” Web images of child pornography was not illegal possession under state law.

The high court agreed, saying that to be guilty of possession, a defendant’s conduct “must exceed mere viewing to encompass more affirmative acts of control, such as printing, downloading or saving,” Senior Associate Judge Carmen Beauchamp Ciparick wrote for the majority. “To hold otherwise would extend the reach” of the law “to conduct – viewing – that our Legislature has not deemed criminal.”

“I do not support this view,” Associate Judge Victoria A. Graffeo wrote in a separate but concurring opinion, joined by Associate Judge Eugene F. Pigott.

“Because I conclude that the Legislature recognized that a child is victimized each time an image of the child is knowingly viewed, I believe that this conduct” is illegal, she wrote.

Despite not agreeing with her colleagues, Judges Graffeo and Pigott voted to strike Kent’s conviction.

Pedophile Milwaukee Wisconsin Sheriff’s Sergeant Phil Wentzel Quits After Child Pornography/Molestation Arrest – Drugged, Molested, And Photographed Girls 6 To 14 – Uploaded Pictures To Internet From Home And Work

May 8, 2012

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN – The Milwaukee County sheriff’s sergeant who has been accused of producing child porn resigned effective Monday, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

That immediately stops the internal investigation that the sheriff’s office had initiated last week.

“We did initiate an internal investigation, hence he resigned today,” Capt. Scott Stiff said Monday. “Effective immediately, he’s no longer employed with our agency, so there’s no need to conduct any further (investigation).”

Phil Wentzel, a former spokesman for the office, was accused in a federal complaint Thursday of taking photos of girls between 6 and 14 years old at a campsite in Campbellsport in Fond du Lac County, where he had rented a spot for his recreational vehicle since 2008.

Wentzel, 41, is accused of producing most of the child porn in April 2011, but files were created starting in May 2010, a criminal complaint states. He shared the photos in seven different photo albums through an Internet peer-to-peer file-sharing network.

Wentzel admitted to the FBI that he drugged and molested girls and took pornographic pictures of them, U.S. Attorney James Santelle said in a news release Friday. Wentzel also said he had a difficult time controlling his urges.

The complaint states he had accessed his accounts from several computers, including Milwaukee County computers in August 2011.

Arrested last week

He was arrested May 2 at the Sheriff’s Department and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

It was a search warrant in Denver that led investigators to the images.

According to the criminal complaint, Wentzel agreed to fully cooperate and give investigators the password to an encrypted hard drive they seized from his West Allis home in exchange for a tentative plea agreement and a reduced prison sentence.

Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. said in a statement to media last week that he was “disgusted with the nature of the allegations against the deputy as they were briefed to him.” He had no further comment while the issue is under investigation.

If convicted, Wentzel is facing a minimum of 15 years in jail and a maximum of 30 years and a fine of up to $250,000.

Pedophile Veteran Woodland Park New Jersey Police Officer Steven Vigorito Jr. Charged With Seeking Sex With 12 Year Old Girl After Sending Her Explicit Photos Of Himself In Uniform

April 25, 2012

WOODLAND PARK, NEW JERSEY – A New Jersey police officer sent a 12-year-old girl explicit photos of himself in uniform and tried to set up a sexual encounter with her, days after meeting the girl while assisting her family in an unrelated police matter, authorities said Wednesday.

Woodland Park Police Officer Steven Vigorito Jr. pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges ranging from attempted aggravated sexual assault to luring and enticing a child. He was being held on $250,000 bail following his arrest while on duty Tuesday night. A message left after-hours for the public defender who represented him at the arraignment was not returned.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said the girl’s mother complained to the police department on Monday that the officer had made inappropriate comments to her daughter, had given her his private cellphone number and had asked her to text him. Woodlawn Park Police Chief Anthony Galietti said they immediately contacted the prosecutor’s office, whose detectives posed as the girl and started exchanging texts with Vigorito.

The texts became increasingly explicit over the course of several days, prosecutors said. Vigorito eventually texted the girl photographs in which he was exposing himself while wearing his police uniform and arranged to meet her for a sexual encounter, prosecutors alleged.

The girl was never in harm’s way, and never exchanged texts with the officer, Valdes said.

“What is so disturbing about this, is the person who was to assist the family, ends up preying on the family,” Valdes said.

The 39-year-old Vigorito has been with the police department for 12 years in Woodland Park, a small suburb about 15 miles from Manhattan. The town, known until a recent voter-approved name change as West Paterson, is a bucolic, leafy borough of neatly landscaped homes adjacent to Paterson, a grittier, more industrialized urban neighbor.

Vigorito, who is a married father of two, was arrested Tuesday night in the police station while on the night shift, according to Galietti, who said the patrolman was suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

The arrest of one of the 25 officers on the force has shaken the small department, Galietti said.

“It’s very upsetting, when you have one of your own do something like this. It’s very upsetting,” he said. Galietti added that department officials had acted immediately upon receiving the family’s complaint about the officer, and had no hesitation in alerting the prosecutor’s office.

“When this came to light we went into it head-on. We didn’t care if it was one of our own,” he said. “I’m the father of five kids, and this is wrong. It’s a very inappropriate situation. Unfortunately, he (Vigorito) had a badge at the time.”

Pedophile Veteran Long Beach California Police Officer Arrested And Charged With Child Pornography After Seeking Sex With Teen While On Duty

April 21, 2012

LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA – A nine-year veteran of the Long Beach Police Department has been arrested on suspicion of felony possession of child pornography after reportedly meeting a teenager while on patrol and soliciting explicit photographs of the youth through electronic messages, police said.

Noe Yanez, 40, was taken into custody Thursday evening by Long Beach police after an investigation that began earlier this month. The alleged victim had told a school resources officer about the messages and authorities were alerted. Detectives served several search warrants in the investigation of Yanez’s home and other establishments for records of the communications.

Yanez first came into contact with the minor during the course of his work as a patrolman, police said. He initially contacted the teen through text messages and subsequently solicited inappropriate photographs of the victim, according to the department. Yanez was suspended without pay Thursday pending the resolution of the criminal and administrative investigation.

Sources familiar with the investigation said detectives have not ruled out the possibility of other victims. Department investigators have obtained computer data and phone records seeking to verify the extent of the activity, the sources said.

“Not only are the actions of this officer a violation of the law, they are a violation of the community’s trust and a violation of the principles of this department,” Police Chief Jim McDonnell said. “The men and women of this department take great pride in the good work they do every day with the community, and we will not allow the actions of this one officer to compromise that relationship.” McDonnell said the investigation is ongoing, but authorities i believed an arrest was warranted at this time.

The accusation comes one year after another Long Beach officer was booked after his wife found him having sex with a minor. That detective, Erik Alvarez of Upland, subsequently resigned and was convicted of having a sexual relationship with the girl since she was 15. He received a two-year sentence in state prison.

Yanez was being held on $20,000 bail Thursday at the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail. Long Beach detectives are planning to present the case to the county district attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division, which specializes in prosecuting law enforcement officials and lawyers. Long Beach police declined Friday to release a photo of the officer or give more details about the victim.

Boston Massachusetts TSA Agent Jose E. Salgado Arrested And Charged With Child Pornography – One Of 55 Pedophiles Charged And/Or Arrested In Week-Long Sweep Relating To Offenses Against Children

April 11, 2012

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – Cops snared 55 Massachusetts men in a sweeping, multi-agency child pornography crackdown — including a Transportation Security Administration officer assigned to Logan International Airport who is just the latest embarrassment for the troubled federal agency.

TSA agent Jose E. Salgado, 59, of Chelsea was suspended from his job after his employers learned that local law enforcement agencies are pursuing criminal charges against him for the possession and sharing of pornographic images of children.

“TSA has been cooperating fully with our law enforcement partners during the investigation into this matter,” TSA spokeswoman Ann Davis said. “Upon learning of these charges, TSA took immediate action and the individual is not working at the airport.”

Periodic arrests of TSA agents on sex charges across the nation have fueled criticism of the agency’s screening of its own employees, tasked with patting down the traveling public and keeping the airways safe. At least two other TSA officers assigned to Logan have faced sex charges in the past two years. Sex charges against others have been reported in Virginia, New Hampshire, Nevada, Georgia and other states.

Salgado could not be reached for comment last night. He has been charged but was not arrested. His name surfaced hours after representatives of more than 20 Bay State police departments announced the arrest of 32 men in Operation Corral, a weeklong roundup of child pornography suspects across the state.

“This is just a drop in the bucket,” said state police Sgt. Michael Hill of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Suspects were targeted in East Boston, Hyde Park, Revere, Dedham, Arlington, Brockton, Lowell, Worcester, New Bedford, Haverhill, Marblehead, Natick, Middleboro, Scituate, Taunton, South Harwich, North Attleboro, Milford, Seekonk, Somerset, Oak Bluffs, Oxford, Amesbury, Belchertown, Granby and Stockbridge. Authorities say they are now pursuing criminal complaints in eight more cases, and 14 more investigations are ongoing.

“We’re going to be doing this for a long time,” Hill said.

Operation Corral kicked off in January, when representatives of local, state and federal agencies began digging into computer-based file exchange networks, once used for sharing music, but now used to exchange illegal photos and videos. Bruce Foucart, special agent in charge of the Boston field office of Homeland Security Investigations, said trained computer investigators tracked the accused by following their digital footprints.

“A lot of times the criminals don’t even realize they left things behind,” he said.

Boston Massachusetts TSA Screener Andrew Cheever Sentenced To Just 3 1/2 Years In Prison For Child Pornography

March 29, 2012

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – A former employee of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration has been sentenced to nearly three and a half years in prison for possessing child pornography.

Federal prosecutors say 34-year-old Andrew Cheever of Lowell was sentenced Wednesday to three years and five months behind bars and two years of probation. He was also ordered to read victim impact statements of six children depicted in the pornography he collected.

He pleaded guilty in December.

Authorities say Cheever had thousands of child pornography images and videos on his home computer and made them available on the Internet using peer-to-peer file sharing software.

Cheever was a security checkpoint screener at Logan International Airport until he was taken into custody in September.

Tax Dollars Paid Pedophile Los Angeles California Teacher To Quit

February 11, 2012

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – The Los Angeles Unified School District paid Mark Berndt, the teacher at the center of the Miramonte Elementary child abuse scandal, $40,000 to drop the challenge to his dismissal last year.

The payout consisted of four months of back salary plus reimbursement for the cost of health benefits. Berndt was fired by the Board of Education in February 2011 after officials learned that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was investigating him for alleged lewd acts against students. He was arrested last week.

The firing took Berndt off the district payroll. But he fought to keep his job through an appeal process that lasted until he settled with the school system and resigned in June.

The settlement with Berndt came in the face of a dilemma, said L.A. Unified general counsel David Holmquist. A hearing on the dismissal was pending and the district didn’t have evidence to justify the firing because the Sheriff’s Department investigation was ongoing.

“We were told we could not do any investigation” to avoid interfering with a law enforcement probe, said Holmquist. “We didn’t have any evidence, and we couldn’t put on any witnesses. We didn’t have anything to successfully defend a challenge.”

Berndt was charged last week with 23 counts of lewd conduct against children; another teacher, Martin Springer, was charged this week with three counts of lewd conduct. Berndt is alleged to have taken photographs of blindfolded children being spoon-fed his semen. Springer is accused of fondling a girl in his class. The Berndt and Springer cases are believed to be unrelated.

At the school Thursday, tensions flared openly for the first time between the teachers union and L.A. Unified over the handling of the crisis. United Teachers Los Angeles criticized the district’s wholesale removal of the Miramonte faculty. The campus, in unincorporated Florence-Firestone south of downtown L.A., had been closed Tuesday and Wednesday to allow for the transition.

“When teachers were told that they were being transferred, dozens of teachers were in tears,” union President Warren Fletcher said. “They are part of the fabric of this community.”

The union accepted the transfers, Fletcher said, on the understanding that the move was temporary and that no innocent teacher’s employment record would be marred. L.A. Unified, he said, broke both promises, by categorizing the teachers’ relocation as an administrative transfer. Such paperwork frequently results from a disciplinary action.

The 85 affected instructors began filing grievances at union headquarters, Fletcher said.

L.A. schools Supt. John Deasy contested the union’s assertions.

“When the investigations are complete and nothing emerges with a particular teacher, that teacher’s assignment is to be Miramonte Elementary School,” Deasy said in statement.

Multiple inquiries are ongoing.

Meanwhile, sources close to the investigation say the Sheriff’s Department is conducting inquiries into a child-abuse allegation against a male teacher who once worked at Miramonte. The incident occurred in the 1980s and was the subject of a law enforcement investigation at the time, according to records that have surfaced at L.A. Unified.

The allegation is too old to result in charges, sources said, but officials still want to learn as much as possible about what happened. In the interim, the teacher, who is working at another school, has been removed from his classroom.

The union and Deasy have issued statements saying that their paramount interest is providing a stable and secure environment for Miramonte students.

That premise was sorely tested Thursday morning with the deluge of news media, the phalanx of armed school police officers and more than 200 parents and students protesting the staff’s replacement.

With standardized testing and parent-teacher conferences coming up, the timing could not have been worse, said Betty Fuentes, 18, whose brother is a fifth-grader.

First-grade teacher Martha Cedeno learned from her predecessor in the last couple of days about which children needed extra support and who seemed to be gifted — and also about two boys who usually needed to be separated.

Cedeno led her new students through writing a farewell letter or drawing a picture for their former teacher.

Only one student alluded to the teacher arrests. “You had to go because of somebody evil,” said counselor Gina Adelman paraphrasing what the student wrote. The district assigned 45 counselors, one per classroom, to the school, where they are expected to remain until year’s end.

At one point, Cedeno needed the students’ help. They directed her to the physical education schedule. “Volleyball 71,” she read. Then she paused: “What does 71 mean? Boys and girls, do you know? Is that the area you play?”

Some parents, including some who had observed classes, were reassured about their children’s education after a meeting with new Principal Dolores Palacio.

A retired administrator who has trained principals, Palacio had left a message offering help to then-Principal Martin Sandoval. She received a return call asking her to run Miramonte.

“I really want to help the school get back into a semblance of normalcy,” she said. “We know what we are here for. We know it’s about the children and the parents.”

Bored London UK Court Clerk Busted Surfing Porn Sites During Rape Trial Pleads Guilty

February 8, 2012

LONDON, UK – A veteran London court clerk caught surfing porn sites during a rape trial said he did so “because he was bored.”

Debasish Majumder, 54, pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct in public office and five counts of possession of indecent images, the U.K. Daily Mail newspaper reported.

The prosecution alleged Majumder viewed about 30 images between Dec. 9 and 10 during a rape trial. The judge sitting behind him said he noticed the filthy photos as the victim in the case was testifying.

“He said that he watched a lot of internet porn, he said that at work there were moments in his day that were boring and he would surf the net not to get access to sites but to get the titles of sites to use on his home computer and normally sites were blocked,” the paper quoted prosecutor Annabel Darlow as saying.

Police later found evidence of child porn at Majumder’s home, the Mail reported.

He will be sentenced later this month once his medical reports are in.

On Duty Santa Maria California Police Officer Alberto Covarrubias Jr., Shot And Killed By Fellow Officers, Was A Pedophile – Won’t Get A Police Funeral…

February 7, 2012

SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA – When a police officer dies on the job, a department and a community mourn together. But not this week in Santa Maria, where they are too stunned and outraged.

Officer Alberto Covarrubias Jr. was shot and killed early Saturday at the end of his shift working a DUI checkpoint. The shooter was his best friend on the force and best man at his wedding just three weeks earlier.

More shocking still was that the shooting occurred as detectives moved in to arrest Covarrubias, 29, on charges of having sex with a 17-year-old girl.

Now, as Covarrubias’ family prepares to bury him without a police funeral, two retired officers who spoke to police at the scene of the shooting offered new details of the case:

— The girl was a member of the department’s Police Explorer program for young people interested in law enforcement careers.

— A lieutenant at the checkpoint had alerted the officers assembled, including Covarrubias, that the girl was part of an investigation and that she was going to be pulled off checkpoint duty.

The former officers disclosed the details to The Associated Press only on condition of anonymity. Police officials have not returned repeated calls seeking comment.

Since the shooting, a memorial of candles and flowers has risen where Covarrubias was killed. The death of an officer on duty is rare, though the city came close in December when two were wounded by “friendly fire” during a botched SWAT team raid.

“It doesn’t make sense,” said Davinder Singh, who manages the 7-11 store 50 yards from the memorial. “It’s not supposed to happen that way.”

Santa Maria, nestled between oak-studded hills and cooled by the Pacific 10 miles away, is a mixture of 1950s California and the kind of stucco-clad, cookie-cutter development seen elsewhere. Over the years, Latinos have increasingly moved in to the city about 170 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

It’s easy to see their influence — they now comprise 70 percent of the city’s 100,000 residents. A new Rite-Aid drug store sits around the corner from a Mexican herbal medicine shop, Clinica Naturista. And a throw-back hamburger stand on the main drag serves menudo, a Mexican stew, on weekends.

Killings are uncommon; the city averages less than a half-dozen homicides a year, mostly gang-related. But the recent spate of violence has some city officials worried.

“We’re in tough times trying to get business and people to settle here,” said Mike Cordero, a City Council member who served 30 years on the Santa Maria police force.

Police have disclosed few details about the Covarrubias case, leaving residents to wonder why police felt compelled to make the arrest while the four-year veteran was on duty and how it could have ended with a bullet in the officer’s chest.

Covarrubias’ family wants answers, too.

“What happened to procedure?” asked his father, Alberto Covarrubias Sr. “Why did they go to arrest him in the field? If it was so urgent why didn’t they just say there was a family emergency and he had to come to the station?”

Chief Danny R. Macagni did not respond to repeated requests for an interview, nor did City Manager Rick Hayden or City Attorney Gilbert Trujillo.

At a news conference the day after the shooting, neither Macagni nor his top deputies were wearing the black bands across their badges that are customary after an officer is killed.

“Events unfolded very rapidly,” he said. “It was very clear to the investigators that he knew what was going to happen. I cannot divulge why we know that. The information that we had we knew we could not let him get in the car and drive somewhere.

“But we did not expect him to react the way he did,” he added.

Covarrubias, a 2000 graduate of Santa Maria High School, always wanted to be a cop. His classmates said he was a funny and charming guy. He had recently remarried — a woman with whom his father said “he just clicked” — 13 months after his first wife committed suicide during their divorce proceedings.

He once was heralded as employee of the month in the department of 105 for nabbing an ATM robber, his father said. Last fall, he was named to the motorcycle unit. “My son was proud to be a cop,” he said. “He was a good cop. Now they’re dragging his name through the mud.”

Everyone has the same question: Why did police try to arrest Covarrubias while he was armed with his service pistol and aware of the investigation?

“I’m concerned about what’s happening and it goes beyond the shooting of an officer. It reflects on the management of the police department,” said Toru Miyoshi, who formerly served on both the city council and the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors.

“They could have waited for a more controlled situation. A DUI checkpoint does not just put the accused at risk but it puts the public at risk as well,” Miyoshi said.

It’s unclear for how long Covarrubias and the girl carried on a sexual relationship, but she confided to an adult described as a “mother figure” on Thursday — Covarrubias’ birthday — that the two “were dating.” The woman called police, the retired officers said.

Police decided to set up a sting to arrest Covarrubias on sexual misconduct charges. In California, the age of consent is 18 unless the two people are within three years of each other in age.

Before the DUI checkpoint started, the lieutenant in charge was told that the Explorer Scout was going to be called away to do a “pretext call,” the name for setup calls designed to get suspects to confess with investigators listening in, both retired officers said.

For reasons unknown, the commanding officer told all of the officers at the checkpoint, including Covarrubias, that the girl would be called away for an investigation, they said.

The officers, who have more than six decades of experience between them, independently described what happened that night.

Covarrubias panicked when he heard the commanding officer’s announcement about the pretext call, the officers said. He texted the girl, asking if she had spoken to investigators.

Investigators proceeded with their plan, sending the “mother figure” to fetch the girl and tell her there was a family emergency. Covarrubias saw the girl leave and became frantic.

“As soon as she gets pulled out he starts texting her again,” said one of the retired officers. “He started texting stuff like ‘I’m not going to jail’ and ‘I’d rather kill myself’ and that type of stuff.”

Soon the girl called Covarrubias’ cell phone and, though he knew she was part of an investigation, he acknowledged their sexual relationship, the former officers said. After hanging up he sent a text saying that he hoped the call wasn’t set up by the department.

Sometime around 1 a.m., two sergeants — one of them the officer’s cousin — arrived to take Covarrubias into custody.

Covarrubias backed up and, according to police, tried to draw his gun as the sergeants wrestled him to the ground. Police at the scene told the retired officers that Covarrubias fired four times, but not at anything or anyone.

Then, he pointed his pistol at his best man, Officer Matt Kline, the retired officers said. Kline fired his weapon, fatally wounding his friend.

The department denied Covarrubias a police funeral, said his father, who then opted not to bury his son in the uniform he loved.

“What happened to the brotherhood?” the father asked. “This is all stewing inside of me. I should have my son here, not be planning his funeral.”

Pedophile New York City Auxilary Police Officer Capt. Daniel Sayers Arrested, Suspended, And Charged After Two Raids Uncover His Huge Collection Of Child Pornography

February 3, 2012

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – An NYPD auxiliary officer was arrested in Orange County Thursday for allegedly having a huge collection of child pornography.

Police say Daniel Sayers, who is listed on the auxiliary website as a captain, had hundreds of photos of boys under the age of 16 engaging in sexual acts. The pictures were discovered in two raids.

Sayers had also received an award sponsored by President Barack Obama for his services.

Sayers was a 20-year resident of Blooming Grove and was in the process of moving to a rental property in Greenwood Lake. Police say his landlord saw some of his moving boxes and noticed disturbing photos before contacting authorities.

Sayers has been suspended by the NYPD and is being held at the Orange County Jail.

Los Angeles California Police And District Attorney Failed To Pursue Molestation Charges Involving 9 Year Old Girl – Teacher Now Charged With 23 Counts Of Lewd Acts On A Child

February 2, 2012

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – The teacher accused this week of taking bondage photos of his elementary school students was investigated in 1994, but prosecutors decided not to pursue the case, Los Angeles authorities said Thursday.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Sgt. Dan Scott, the lead investigator in the case against 30-year teaching veteran Mark Berndt, told CNN Thursday that in January 1994, the mother of a 9-year-old girl who went to Miramonte Elementary School, where Berndt taught, reported that her daughter had been fondled by Berndt.

“The 9-year-old girl reported that when she was sitting in the classroom in September of 1993, the teacher approached her and reached under the desk and attempted to touch or fondle her genital area,” Scott said.

According to Scott, the girl said she had pushed Berndt’s hand away; however, she did not report the incident until January of 1994, after watching a television show about sexual abuse.

When the girl’s mother notified school officials, detectives interviewed Berndt but he denied the allegations, Scott said. “We had a credible disclosure from a child reporting a crime,” Scott said.

On February 23, 1994, the district attorney in Los Angeles declined to file charges, according to a statement Thursday from the prosecutor’s office.

“After careful evaluation, it was determined that the evidence was insufficient to prove a crime occurred,” the statement said. “A prosecutor cannot ethically file criminal charges if the evidence fails to meet the standard of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Berndt, 61, faces more recent allegations. He sits in jail with his bond set at $23 million over 23 felony counts of lewd acts on a child.

Investigators waited more than a year before arresting Berndt, who was still teaching at Miramonte Elementary in south Los Angeles, after finding bondage photos apparently taken in his classroom. But Scott said, “We always had our eyes on him.”

Although the probe began in October 2010, when a drugstore photo processor called police, Berndt was not taken into custody until this week. He was removed from the classroom in January 2011.

At least 23 children in the images have been identified, while another 10 are unidentified, said Scott.

The 400 photographs collected by investigators show children blindfolded, with tape over their mouths, and some with suspected semen-filled spoons at their mouths, Scott said.

Some photos show female students with “what appeared to be a blue plastic spoon, filled with an unknown clear/white liquid substance, up to their mouths as if they were going to ingest the substance,” authorities said.

The probe began in 2010 when a CVS drugstore photo technician in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County told the Redondo Police department about finding disturbing images of blindfolded children in a processing order, Scott said.

Redondo police investigators called the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department on December 2, 2010, after determining the photos were taken in Berndt’s classroom.

“Immediately, our detective assigned to the case contacted school officials about our investigation, but we learned that students were off track and would not be returning until January 3rd (of 2011),” Scott said.

A detective from the Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit visited Berndt’s classroom on January 3, 2011– when classes resumed after the holiday break — and separated the teacher from his students, Scott said.

“When Berndt was asked to leave, our detective conducted cursory interviews with the students in a very delicate manner to simply find how the class works,” said Scott, who added that authorities at the time had only potential evidence of misdemeanor charges based on the photo discovery.

Berndt refused to answer questions that day, Scott said. “Mr. Berndt invoked his rights to remain silent without counsel, therefore, once the students were cleared from the classroom, our detective immediately searched the classroom looking for evidence.”

The evidence they were seeking included the blue spoon seen in some of the photos of female students. Later testing convinced investigators the spoon contained Berndt’s semen.

“Beneath a classroom trash bin, our detective found a blue spoon and container similar to the one depicted in the photos,” Scott said. “We suspect those items were probably deliberately placed at the bottom of the trash bin.”

Sheriff’s investigators notified school authorities of their investigation on January 7, 2011, and Berndt was placed on leave from his teaching job, Scott said.

“A few days later, we served a subpoena on Berndt’s residence and uncovered over 100 additional photos,” he said.

The spoon and small container recovered from the classroom were sent to a criminal laboratory for DNA testing. It took seven months for investigators to positively identify the sample as semen, Scott said.

“Once we determined the samples contained semen, we sent a surveillance team to follow Berndt around to obtain a sample of his DNA,” he said. Scott declined to reveal how authorities obtained Berndt’s DNA.

“It took us another six to seven months to process Berndt’s DNA and match it with the classroom DNA sample that tested positive for semen,” he said.

Processing the DNA, identifying the children in the photos and conducting in-depth interviews with potential victims was time consuming, Scott said in response to criticism over the year that passed before Berndt was arrested.

On Tuesday of this week, Berndt was arrested at his apartment and booked on 23 felony counts of lewd and lascivious conduct.

“We always had our eyes on him and there was never a chance he would get away from us,” Scott said.

Investigators interviewed more than 80 current and former students and school employees in the process of identifying the 23 boys and girls, then between the ages of 7 and 10 years old, as alleged victims in crimes that are believed to have been committed between 2005 and 2010, Scott said. About 10 children seen in the more than 400 images have not yet been identified, he said.

The young students “didn’t realize they were victimized,” he said.

“They thought they were being blindfolded and gagged as a game,” he said. “And they were rewarded with cookies or spoons full of ‘sugar.’ They did not realize the spoon contained semen.”

Investigators did not reveal the contents of the fluid to the children or tell them that the case involved child molestation allegations, he said.

The photographs also showed “a large 3-inch cockroach that would crawl on their face,” Scott said.

The search of Berndt’s home also found a video depicting adult sexual “bondage” activity “which mirrored the bondage-type photos of the children,” investigators said.

Referring to the allegations against the former teacher, Los Angeles School Superintendent John Deasy said in a statement after the arrest: “I am sickened and horrified by the behavior of Mark Berndt. This individual and his conduct do not reflect on the quality of the teachers who work so hard on behalf of the students in the Los Angeles Unified School District.”

Berndt’s public defender has not spoken to reporters about the case, which is set for arraignment on February 21.

Pedophile Santa Maria California Police Officer Shot And Killed While On Duty And By Offiers In His Own Department

January 29, 2012

SANTA MARIA, CALIFORNIA – A police officer under investigation for sexual misconduct with a teenage minor was shot and killed while on duty by fellow officers Saturday as they tried to arrest him on California’s central coast, authorities said.

The officer was manning a DUI checkpoint when the shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. He was declared dead after emergency surgery at Marian Medical Center, Santa Maria police Chief Danny Macagni said in a statement.

The officer, a four-year Santa Maria department veteran, had just learned of the internal investigation of an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, and it became necessary to arrest him immediately, Macagni said.

“We had no choice,” Macagni said in video of an afternoon news conference posted by KCOY-TV. He said investigators had evidence “that demanded that we go out and take this officer off the street immediately.”

Supervising officers were sent to make a felony arrest, but he struggled with them when they arrived, first putting up a physical fight, then firing his gun but hitting no one, Macagni said.

“He chose to resist, he drew his weapon, a fight ensued, he fired his weapon,” the chief said.

Several officers came to help the police making the arrest, and one of them shot the suspected officer in the chest once, Macagni said.

Detectives had begun investigating the alleged relationship on Thursday night, and minutes before the shooting had confirmed that an “inappropriate” and “very explicit” relationship had been going on, Macagni said.

He said he could not give details because of the sensitivity of the investigation, but “there was some witness intimidation involved” and the arrest couldn’t wait for a more proper time or place.

“The information that we had in hand demanded that we not let him leave that scene, get in a car, drive somewhere, it would put the public at risk,” Macagni said at the news conference. “We just did not know what was going to happen, we did not expect him to react the way that he did.”

Macagni said police had expressed condolences to the officer’s family.

The officer who fired the fatal shot, an eight-year department veteran, has been placed on administrative leave, and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department was investigating the shooting, Macagni said.

The name of the officer killed has not been released because some family members were still being notified, and the name of the officer who fired the shot was withheld while the incident was under investigation, police said.

Santa Maria is a city of some 100,000 people about 60 miles northwest of Santa Barbara and 160 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

Veteran Wylie Texas Police Officer Suspended After Child Pornography And Lewd Images Found On His Home Computer – Female Dispatcher And Another Civilian Employee Also Suspended

January 25, 2012

WYLIE, TEXAS – The Wylie Police Department put a veteran patrolman on paid administrative leave on Tuesday after questions of lewd behavior and child pornography surfaced late Monday night.

The pictures allegedly taken from the policeman’s home computer aren’t just personal, they’re pornographic.

“It’s absolutely not reflective of this agency or the police profession,” said Det. Venece Perepiczka a Wylie Police spokeswoman.

Images posted on the internet show what appears to be the officer in a sexual act with a woman. Another picture shows a woman posing naked next to a Wylie police badge and doing an obscene act with a Glock pistol.

But even more concerning are pictures of child porn.

They’re all believed to have been stolen from the policeman’s personal computer and then sent to every e-mail address in his contact list on Monday night.

Even though Wylie named its officer under investigation, News 8 has decided not to reveal his identity, since he has not been charged with a crime.

In addition to suspending him, Wylie also put a female dispatcher and another civilian employee on paid administrative leave because they appeared in some pictures.

“What Wylie administration will be investigating is the officer’s conduct and how that relates to him being a police officer here,” Det. Perepiczka added.

But Wylie also asked the Texas Rangers to launch an investigation, along with the Garland Police Department, since the Wylie officer actually lives there.

“We contacted him at his home,” explained Ofc. Joe Harn, a Garland Police spokesman. “He was very cooperative. He gave us consent… and we did take his computer.”

The veteran patrolman has worked at Wylie for 13 years.

He used to be a sergeant but was demoted to an officer, Det. Perepiczka confirmed, though it’s uncertain why.

The policeman’s telephone is disconnected and he did not immediately respond to an e-mail Tuesday night.

Garland Police said officers will get a search warrant to look at the officer’s computer, but it might be a couple weeks until they figure out what, if anything, is on the hard drive.

U.S. State Department Security Officer James Cafferty Pleads Guilty To Child Pornography

January 6, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – The Department of State diplomatic security officer recently snared in an undercover FBI child pornography investigation yesterday pleaded guilty to a single felony count, pursuant to a deal struck with federal prosecutors.

By copping to transporting child porn, James Cafferty, 45, now faces a mandatory minimum prison term of five years (though a judge could sentence him to up to 20 years in custody). Cafferty, who most recently was stationed at the U.S. Embassy in London, is seen in the mug shot at right.

In a plea agreement filed in U.S. District Court in Tampa, Cafferty admitted that when he returned to the U.S. from England in August, he carried three hard drives containing up to 15,000 child porn images (both photos and videos). Digital storage media found in Cafferty’s Largo, Florida home during a law enforcement search contained more than 30,000 child porn images.

During questioning by federal agents, Cafferty “admitted ‘photo-shopping’ himself into scenes constituting child pornography.”

Cafferty, who is scheduled to be sentenced on March 23, first came to the attention of federal agents in the course of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement probe that was launched in April 2006. The ICE investigation identified 5000 U.S. residents, including Cafferty, who had paid to subscribe to web sites offering child pornography. According to the plea agreement, Cafferty “was flagged” as a State Department employee who had purchased access to several of the illicit sites, including “Sick Room.”

In mid-2011, Department of Defense investigators enlisted the FBI’s help in its probe of Cafferty. Since the security officer’s subscriptions dated back several years, agents “reinitiated the investigation to determine if Cafferty was still utilizing the Internet via his Yahoo email accounts to access child pornography.”

That “reinitiation” involved an undercover FBI web site purporting to offer illicit videos for free. As detailed by TSG four months ago, that operation targeted Cafferty, who was reeled in by federal agents after he logged into the undercover site (from an IP address in London) and sought to download a video purporting to depict “a 9-10 y.o. girl and man” engaged in a variety of sexual activity.

Former UN Weapons Inspector Convicted After Seeking Sex With 15 Year Old Girl

October 26, 2011

STROUDSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA – A former U.N. weapons inspector convicted in an online sex sting lost his bid for a new trial Wednesday and was expected to learn his sentence later in the day.

Scott Ritter, 50, of Delmar, N.Y., exchanged explicit messages with a detective posing as a 15-year-old girl, then performed a sex act on himself in front of a webcam. He testified in his own defense at his April trial that he believed the person he met in a Yahoo chat room in 2009 was an adult acting out her own fantasy.

A Monroe County jury convicted Ritter on six counts, including unlawful contact with a minor.

Ritter asked for a new trial Wednesday, basing his request on an appeals court ruling in New York that records from two previous incidents in that state in 2001 should not have been unsealed and given to prosecutors in Pennsylvania to be used at his trial. Defense attorney Gary Kohlman argued the New York ruling entitled Ritter to a new trial because prosecutors based much of their strategy on the argument that Ritter had a history of illicit online sex.

“It became, as I feared, the tail that was wagging the dog at trial,” Kohlman said in court.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Rakaczewski argued the New York ruling had no bearing on Ritter’s conviction and sentence in Pennsylvania.

Monroe County Judge Jennifer Sibum rejected the defense request for a new trial, saying Kohlman could bring up the New York case on appeal, and ordered Ritter’s sentencing hearing to begin.

Paula Brust, a member of the Pennsylvania’s Sexual Offenders Assessment Board, testified for the prosecution that based on Ritter’s history, he is at risk to offend again.

“He is not able to manage his offending in the community despite sex offender treatment,” she said.

Kohlman indicated he plans to call his own expert who will testify that Ritter is doing well in treatment and presents a low risk of re-offending.

Ritter was one of the U.N.’s chief weapons inspectors in Iraq from 1991 to 1998. He resigned after accusing the United States and the U.N. of failing to get tough with Saddam Hussein. Later, he said Iraq had destroyed its weapons of mass destruction, and he became a vocal critic of the U.S. invasion.

In 2001, Ritter twice arranged to meet people who claimed online to be underage girls but who turned out to be undercover police in Colonie, N.Y. The charges were eventually dismissed and the case was sealed, but Pennsylvania prosecutors obtained the records and used them to try to show Ritter has a predilection for underage girls.

Ritter told jurors he knew he was chatting with undercover police and set up the meetings so he would be arrested. Kohlman has said Ritter used sexually explicit chats on the Internet as a way to handle his depression over being called unpatriotic for his criticism of American policy on Iraq.

Baltimore Maryland TSA Officer Michael Scott Wilson Arrested, Charged With Child Pornography

October 12, 2011

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND — A Transportation Security Administration security officer is out on bail after he was arrested and charged with child pornography.

Michael Scott Wilson, 41, has been suspended from his job following the arrest.

Wilson was charged Monday with possession and distribution of child pornography after agents searched his Perry Hall home.

Neighbors said he’s married with no children. They said they’re stunned and disturbed by the charges, especially since most of them described Wilson as a straight-laced federal worker who took pride in his position and the trust that comes with it.

“As a parent, it’s disturbing to find out that someone is living so close, especially employed in his capacity,” said neighbor Malik Kelly.

“I travel sometimes twice a week, so to think that one of those screeners could live in your neighborhood and face charges like this is alarming. Definitely alarming,” said neighbor Brian Ryerson.

The TSA released a statement regarding Wilson’s arrest, saying, “The TSA holds its security officers to the highest professional and ethical standards and aggressively investigates allegations of misconduct. The allegations against this individual in no way reflect on the outstanding job our more than 50,000 security officers do every day to ensure the security of the traveling public.”

Department Of Homeland Security Official Anthony Mangione Suspended, Arrested, Charged With Child Pornography In Florida

September 28, 2011

MIAMI, FLORIDA – The head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for south Florida has been arrested on child pornography charges, the Department of Justice said Wednesday.

Anthony Mangione, 50, of Parkland, Florida, was charged in a three-count indictment unsealed Wednesday with transportation of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, authorities said in a statement.

“According to the indictment, between March 2010 and September 2010, Mangione allegedly transported and received visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct,” the statement said. “The indictment also alleges that Mangione possessed electronically stored messages that contained additional images of child pornography during the same time period.”

Mangione was arrested Tuesday by FBI agents and made an initial appearance Wednesday in federal court in West Palm Beach, Florida.

During the appearance, Mangione pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to CNN affiliate WPTV. Both the prosecution and the defense requested he undergo a psychological evaluation, and the judge approved that request.

“The government has concerns that given the magnitude of the charges, that he might melt down,” defense attorney David Howard told WPTV. “So there is … real concern, and it’s going to be addressed.”

Mangione, a 27-year law enforcement veteran, wore a gray jumpsuit with “federal prisoner” on the back in court Wednesday, and his hands and feet were shackled, WPTV said. He made no statement during the hearing.

He was being held in the Broward County, Florida, jail, according to jail records.

A law enforcement official who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media said Mangione has been on leave from his job at ICE. WPTV reported he was placed on paid administrative leave in April amid a federal investigation into four images on his home computer he allegedly received via e-mail.

According to its website, ICE targets and investigates child pornographers, child sex tourists and facilitators and human smugglers and traffickers of minors, among others. The agency developed Operation Predator, which it describes as “an initiative to identify, investigate and arrest child predators and sexual offenders.”

If convicted, Mangione faces up to 20 years in prison, the Department of Justice said. He also faces a term of supervised release from five years to life following his prison sentence and he will be required to register as a sex offender.

Asked about the Mangione case on Wednesday at a news conference on another matter, ICE director John Morton said his agency cooperated fully with the investigation, but he declined to comment further.

The case is being investigated by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, the Department of Justice said. Broward County referred questions to federal authorities, and the FBI referred them to the Department of Justice.

Illinois Sex Offenders, Drug Dealers, And Violent Felons Paid With Tax Dollars To Babysit Children

August 29, 2011

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – Cornelius Osborne may not seem like baby-sitting material.

He was convicted of raping two women. A succession of felonies, from robbery to failing to register as a sex offender, repeatedly sent him to prison, state records show.

But over more than two years, the state paid Osborne nearly $5,000 to baby-sit two children, before his latest conviction — for dealing drugs — put him back behind bars.

Osborne, of Chicago, wasn’t the only sex offender paid by taxpayers to baby-sit, according to a Tribune investigation that found cases of convicted rapists, molesters and other violent felons given access to children over the past decade. The money comes from a $750 million-a-year program that subsidizes child care for more than 150,000 impoverished Illinois families.

The state Department of Human Services poorly vetted baby sitters for years — and when a 2009 law forced better checks, it took nearly 18 months to start them, the newspaper’s investigation of the Child Care Assistance Program found.

Also, despite the reforms, the Tribune found that even now the state lacks safeguards to weed out baby sitters who watch children while living in the homes of sex offenders and other felons deemed too dangerous. Based on those findings, the state is vowing further reforms.

It’s nearly impossible to determine just how many of the illegal baby-sitting arrangements the state has allowed. The newspaper found no cases where children were harmed, although privacy laws shield data needed to do an in-depth study.

Still, the Tribune’s findings are frustrating to Sen. Matt Murphy, R-Palatine, who pushed for the reforms mandating better checks to weed out illegal arrangements.

“You’re talking about not only the state sanctioning, but the state creating, an economic incentive for someone with a criminal record to be in a room with a kid,” Murphy said. “That’s frankly not a situation that I find acceptable.”

Advocates such as Maria Whelan insist that the vast majority of baby sitters are aboveboard and that the 14-year-old federal-state program is key to helping parents work their way out of poverty. About half of the subsidies are in Cook County, where they are administered by the nonprofit Illinois Action for Children run by Whelan.

“This is a program that is absolutely essential if we are going to, with a straight face, tell families that if they work and if they continue to develop themselves, we can help them make a difference for their families,” she said.

Program administrators have gotten national recognition for weeding out parents who don’t qualify for the subsidies. But records show they’ve struggled for years to weed out disqualified baby sitters, such as Osborne.

The honor system

All it took for Osborne was a 2004 application mailed with the help of his sister, whose two children he would be paid to watch in her Englewood apartment.

She was able to pick the baby sitter, and she told the Tribune she didn’t worry about her brother hurting the kids. But she did worry the state would object.

“I thought he would be rejected,” she said, “but they didn’t. I never got a call. They never asked about it.”

They should have. The program has long barred those convicted of sex crimes and the most violent felonies. But Osborne wasn’t spotted because of how the form was filled out. It asked him if he had been convicted of any crimes and, if so, which ones. His response showed “drug trafficking” — a crime that at the time didn’t disqualify him.

He didn’t mention the prison stints for rape, robbery and kidnapping, which would have.

And there’s no record anyone checked further.

At the time, the state trusted Osborne and tens of thousands of other applicants to be honest.

Elko Area Regional Airport Nevada TSA Agent David Ralph Anderson Arrested, Charged With Molesting Girl Younger Than 14 Seven To Ten Times In Past Year

August 27, 2011

SPRING CREEK, NEVADA – A city officer arrested a Spring Creek man Wednesday morning at the Elko Area Regional Airport, where he works for the Transportation Security Administration, on a warrant charging six counts of lewdness with a child.

The Elko County Sheriff’s Office was notified in July of possible sexual contact between David Ralph Anderson, 61, and a girl younger than 14.

According to Elko Justice Court records, the victim told investigators that on seven to 10 occasions between 2010 and this year, Anderson allegedly taught the victim about various sexual acts and had sexual contact in the form of touching each other’s genitals.

Investigators reported Anderson also told the girl to sleep in his bed and taught her to say various vulgar words associated with body parts and sexual activities.

In addition, the girl stated he would rub lotion all over her body, placed his hand up her shirt to touch her breasts, had her watch pornographic films with him, encouraged her to consume alcohol and would French kiss her.

Deputy District Attorney Tyler Ingram submitted a warrant request to Elko Justice of the Peace Al Kacin on Aug. 23, which was granted along with an objection to any reduction of bail.

Anderson, who is a TSA employee according to Elko County Jail records, is being held on $250,000 bail.

Pedophile Police Officer Wannabe Arrested In San Diego California After Telling On Himself In Application

May 18, 2011

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — A man who applied for a job as a San Diego police officer was arrested after answers on his application raised red flags.

On his questionnaire to work for the San Diego Police Department, Robert Williams had to answer questions about crimes he might have committed.

A search warrant affidavit lists question No. 172 from Williams’ applicant questionnaire as trouble.

The question, which asked applicants if they have ever had sexual contact with a child, had a yes answer.

Question No. 175, which asked applicants if they have ever viewed, purchased, sold or subscribed to child pornography, also received a yes response.

10News learned there were two more flagged questions and responses.

Police then searched Williams’ car and apartment, confiscated computers and hard drives and arrested him.

Williams had lived at an apartment in Chula Vista for about a week. A man who answered the door told 10News, “He was a guest and he’s no longer living here. He won’t live here anymore.”

In April, Williams had moved in with a woman and her son in east San Diego.

“I did a favor and brought him in because he had nowhere to go and he gave me a sob story,” said Rory Shipp.

She said one day she turned on her computer and found a strange file after Williams left his hard drive hooked up.

“And when I opened the file, it was a little girl in blue and she was coming out of her clothes, playing with a little thing in her mouth. Oh my God, tears came out of my eyes. It was a home video,” she said.

Shipp said she kicked him out that day.

“He goes, ‘There’s nothing wrong with downloading it, Rory, nothing at all. Looking at it and downloading it, that’s okay.’ I said, ‘Are you sick?'” said Shipp.

Williams’ wife, Sunem, called 10News to read a statement from him. It said, “The San Diego Police Department has problems with the integrity of their officers because telling the truth during the hiring process brings prosecution upon those seeking employment. Mr. Williams told the truth, revealing his secrets, his thoughts, and his past. But he remains innocent of all charges they have illegally obtained. He is seeking expert counsel, pro bono.”

Williams was booked at the George Bailey Detention Facility. His bail was set at $150,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
